I want each of us to think about how we can grow our servant leadership skills in 2020. No public pledges, no social media commitment or pressure. Just an ask that we each intentionally engage those around us at home, work and in our community and actively look for ways to serve their needs.

Servant leadership doesn’t need to be overwhelming or a radical shift in your thinking or actions.

The more you practice it, the easier it gets:

  • At home, do something tangible to help your partner, children or parents to be successful at their work, home or school.
  • At work, look for ways you can step away from the middle of a conversation and let someone else take the spotlight. How can you give them the support/coaching/advice they need to shine and get things done.
  • In your community, look for ways you can be encouraging a voice different than your own to find a space to be heard in meaningful ways.
